How to Let Go of Anger Without Releasing It

1. Try to think more positively about the situation. So your boyfriend broke up with you and couldn’t be bothered to do it face to face? Well, think of it this way-at least he didn’t do it in front of his friends and humiliate you even more. Thinking like this should make you feel a little brighter, and hopefully let just a tiny bit of that anger dissolve.

2. Stay furthest away from the person or thing getting on your nerves. If you are pissed off at your boss at work or your co-workers, excusing yourself to the bathroom might save you face and your job. Once you are in the bathroom you could try to wash your face and arms with cold water to literally "cool you off".

3. If someone is really picking a fight and won’t stop nagging or getting on your nerves, then the best way to deal with it is to block your listening. Don’t listen to what they’re saying no matter how hurtful it is. Try to have a happy memory with you all the time to use it in situations like this. Or may be even you could think of details of a nice dress you wore, or a nice meal you had. Little by little, your mind would drift focus from what’s getting on your nerves.

4. Imagine what you want to happen to whoever’s making you mad. Wish your mother in law would stop nagging at you? It can help to imagine saying how you feel to her, and letting some of your anger out in your mind. For example, imagine telling that person what you think of them. This can also make you feel brighter.

5. Do something that will relax you. Read a book about a situation which is similar to yours, or listen to a song that sings the way you feel about that bad text message break up. Once you feel a little bit understood, do something you enjoy, like watching your favourite movie or talking to your mates on msn. Try not to think about your anger. Eventually, it should completely disappear.
